9/26 PD- Framework for Teaching, Exploring the Competencies

From today's PD- Teachers sharing evidence of what they do effectively do already:
  • Designing Coherent Instruction- Unit maps, Bloom's questions articulated in lesson plans, agenda and summary in the classroom, student choice of projects, diversified groupings
  • Establishing a Culture for Learning- High expectations conveyed to students on a daily basis, connection between hard work and achievement is emphasized
  • Managing Student Behavior- Establish rules from the beginning, school-wide enforcement of agreed upon policies, positive reinforcement
  • Using Questioning and Discussion- Deeper questions for all students present- differentiated & scaffolded, discussion turned over to the students when they are ready
  • Engaging Students in Learning- High levels of questioning, alignment of unit goals with lesson and lesson with instructional objective, providing exemplars
  • Assessment in Instruction- Learning targets achieved, criteria (rubrics) shared with students, establish culture of self-assessment
Principal Eisinger would like us to go deeper in future PD on
  • Self -check throughout any given lesson to make sure there is alignment between classroom activity and your Instructional Objective (Designing Coherent Instruction)
  • The use of exemplars so students understand what characteristics of quality work (Assessment in Instruction)
